At the Bauchi State Gender Policy Drafting Workshop

The Bauchi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and with the active support of CHELD, which has been working closely with the Bauchi State Government and UNFPA to advance gender equality and social inclusion, convened a three-day Gender Policy Drafting Workshop aimed at developing the Bauchi State Gender Policy. The workshop brought together key stakeholders from various ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Women Affairs, the National Human Rights Commission, women and civil society organisations, and representatives of persons with disabilities and young people.

The development of a Gender Policy is a critical step toward achieving equity and social justice. During the workshop, the Executive Director of CHELD, Prof. Cheluchi Onyemelukwe, presented the draft Bauchi State Gender Policy, offering a strategic blueprint to guide the continued drafting, review, and eventual adoption of the policy by stakeholders. This process marks a significant milestone in Bauchi State’s commitment to promoting gender-responsive governance and inclusive development. Through its technical expertise and sustained partnership with the State government and UNFPA.

CHELD continues to actively promote gender equality, protect the rights of women, men, and marginalised populations, and support the integration of equity and inclusion across all sectors of development.
