Reproductive Justice
These challenges are compounded
by a lack of robust legal protection.
Women and girls in Nigeria face a range of issues, including high maternal mortality rates, limited access to quality perinatal care, inadequate contraception options, sexual violence, and harmful cultural practices like female genital mutilation (FGM). These challenges are compounded by a lack of robust legal protection.
CHELD’s Reproductive Justice Programme is an intervention in women and girls’ health that recognises that universal health coverage must address issues regarding women and girls’ reproductive health.
Through advocacy for legal protections, policy interventions and awareness raising, our programme aims to safeguard surrogates’ rights by advocating for legal frameworks that ensure informed consent, fair agreements, and postpartum support for surrogates; address maternal mortality by pushing for policies that expand contraceptive options, reduce stigma, and integrate family planning into primary healthcare systems; push for equitable access to assisted reproductive technologies and improved access to menstrual hygiene products.
