CHELD was at Bankys Private School to talk with secondary school students about mental health care and how to balance academic demands and their mental needs. About 100 students actively participated in the meeting with some of their teachers in attendance.
Nigeria bears the highest burden of depression among young people in Africa. The rate of suicide and suicide attempts amongst young people in Nigeria have also increased. According to the Changing Childhood Project, a collaboration of UNICEF and Gallup, it was noted that Nigerian children are worried and concerned about a plethora of issues, and feel under the most pressure to succeed globally, more than their mates in other parts of the world.
CHELD prioritises mental health and recognises that healthy adults are products of a healthy childhood and adolescence.
