Disability Awareness
We organizes awareness events,
that highlight the rights and needs of
individuals with disabilities.
At CHELD, we are dedicated to championing disability rights, mainstreaming, and advocacy through research, policy development, and awareness campaigns. Our mission is to foster an inclusive society where persons with disabilities (PWDs) have equal access to opportunities, social protection, and a strong voice in decision-making. We believe that by addressing systemic barriers and raising awareness, we can create a world where accessibility and inclusion are not just ideals but realities.
To achieve this, CHELD organizes awareness events, educational campaigns, and stakeholder engagements that highlight the rights and needs of individuals with disabilities. These initiatives are designed to shift societal perceptions, promote accessibility, and push for stronger legal protections.
Our work includes the dissemination of information on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and its application across African countries. We also advocate for law reform to align national policies with the CRPD and enhance disability rights protections. Additionally, through webinars, discussions, and policy briefs, we educate the public, policymakers, and organizations on key disability-related issues.
One of our key initiatives, Project Amplify, focuses on disability mainstreaming, intersectionality, and social protection. This project is committed to conducting research-driven advocacy, ensuring that policies and interventions address the lived experiences of persons with disabilities, particularly in relation to gender, mental health and other intersections.
