Mental Health and Psychosocial
Support Programme

Our work focuses on supporting
individuals living with and affected
by mental health conditions

The Mental Health and psychosocial support Programme aim to increase awareness of mental health and psychosocial support in Nigeria and other African countries.

Our work focuses on supporting individuals living with and affected by mental health conditions, ensuring their rights are protected, and pushing for systemic changes that enhance mental health care and psychosocial support.

As part of our advocacy, CHELD has been actively involved in law reform efforts, including the successful push to replace the outdated Lunacy Act with a more progressive mental health law. Our team continues to advocate for mental health policy improvements, increased funding for services, and the decriminalization of attempted suicide in Nigeria, ensuring that individuals in crisis receive care rather than punishment.

Our activities include the dissemination of mental health laws and policies such as , advocacy for the full implementation of Nigeria’s Mental Health Act and National Suicide Prevention Strategic Framework (NSPSF) as well as research on the effectiveness of mental health interventions across Africa. We also engage in suicide prevention efforts, offering support through awareness campaigns, policy recommendations, referral services, and material assistance to individuals and communities in need.
